Questions To Ask When Hiring A Real Estate Agent
Questions to Ask When Hiring a Real Estate Agent
What many people overlook is the need for a good real estate agent, and not just the one referred by their friend or the first agent they interviewed. But how do you know if a real estate agent is any good? Try asking these questions and listen carefully to their answers.
Is this your full time job?
Buying a property is a big investment. Make sure you get someone who can commit a sufficient amount of time to help you find the best real estate property around the area and one who won’t miss an opportunity to help you find your perfect house.
How many sales have you handled within the last 6 months?
How long have you lived in the area? – A good agent should be very familiar with the area and know the community very well. You might want to ask about the nearest schools, government offices, routes, and even the railways or flight paths that can leave you with noisy days and nights. Hire someone who is proud of the area he lives in but would also be telling you if a specific area or community is not a good option.
Whose interest are you going to represent?
Can I get your references? – Ask for three to five names and contact numbers of most recent clients. Give them a call to ask how the agent performed, how were they treated by the agent, and ask for the good and bad points. Also ask if the agent assisted them with other needs after the deal is done.
How do you expect me to be involved in the process?
This can work in two ways; first, this can help you prepare for the things that the agent needs from you, whether documents, time, information, or simply showing up. Second, it shows you how experienced an agent is. If he already knows what is necessary to complete the process and is able to tell you upfront, you’ll know he’s familiar with the process and you’ll avoid being rushed by the last minute details before a deal closes.
